Welcome to the preview blog for this picture book. I have translated Fazekas Anna's original Hungarian verses into English, preserving the flavor and cadence of the original as much as possible. The book is now available in paperback or hardback versions, contains the two language versions on facing pages, with mirror images of the original illustrations by Rona Emy.

The heirs of the original author and illustrator have graciously granted permission for the publication of this bilingual edition, happy to see the storybook made available to new generations of children. It is certain to delight families with a Hungarian heritage, and sure to please children and parents of all backgrounds.

The story of the injured fawn and the old lady who nurses it back to health is old fashioned but of ageless appeal, and is familiar to most people who grew up in Hungary and Transylvania where it was published. The book continues to be sold in Hungary with several versions of illustrations.

Your comments, reminiscences and reviews are welcome. Enjoy!
